On Wednesday the 21st February ten lucky kids from Totara got to go on a Chinese boat tour with a guide Ruth.

The boat was called Xuelong (Snow Dragon). It is an Ice-breaker ship which travels to Antarctica. We got to see from the first floor to the bridge and the helicopter pad. We got to see inside all the laboratories for the testing of water and collecting microplastics and we got to look at them down a microscope and there were Plankton and Zooplankton shown on a computer slide show.  The ship even had a basketball court for the people working on it.  

Some of us had our photo taken with Lianne Dalziel the Mayor of Christchurch who had been on a tour before us.  

It was great fun and really interesting, although quite chilly.
