BOOK WEEK is back!
Week 8, 4 - 8 September with all the old favourites, some new sure to be favourites, and the Book Character Dress up day.
Flash Mob Reading (Whānau): Monday 4th September, 10.30 - 10.50am & 12.30 - 1.10pm, Whānau to come into school to read during playtime & lunchtime. Will there be mutiny? Come join some spontaneous reading fun in the playground.
Open Library Afternoons: Tuesday 5th & Thursday 7th September, 3.00 - 4.00pm. Come in and enjoy reading books in our school library. Issue a book or two to take home and read together. All whānau & community welcome.
Invite a Grandparent to school: Wednesday 6th September, 9.30 - 10.30am. Invite your grandparents (or an older friend) to come in and read together.
Dress Up Day! Friday 8 September, 9.15am. Dress up as your favourite book character. Arrive at school in costume and we will walk in a parade down London Street, leaving school at 9.15am.
Sponsor a book and spread the love!: Monday 4th - Friday 8th September. Sponsor one of the books on display in the school foyer and have the honour of writing your family name on a special book plate. Plus, your child gets to be the first to take the book home. Help keep the Lyttelton Primary School library up-to-date with beautiful contemporary books and bask in the glory of contributing to a place where journeys into new worlds happen on a daily basis. Books and prices will be on display in the foyer all of Book Week.
Spinal Poetry Competition: Monday 4th - Friday 8th September. The spinal poetry competition will run all of Book Week and can be completed at school or home. And there will be prizes! You can enter as many times as you like, just follow the guidelines:
Create a poem out of the spines of three to four books.
Photograph your masterpiece.
Email your photo to Jenny (jenny.felton@lyttelton.school.nz) by the end of school on Friday 8th August, with ‘Spinal Poem’ in the subject line. Remember to include your name.
Story in a Jar: Monday 4th - Friday 8th September. Story in a Jar will run all of Book Week and can be completed at school or home. And there will be prizes!
Create a scene, character or moment from a favourite story and use your imagination to capture this inside a jar.
Deliver your jar to the school office - we will put them on display for everyone to enjoy.
Remember to put your name on the bottom of your jar and the name of the book on the top of the jar.
Read to an animal photo display: Monday 4th - Friday 8th September. Read to an animal will run all of Book Week and can be completed at home or school. Photos will be displayed in the library.
Get a photo taken of you reading to a pet or animal (real or imaginary).
Email your photo to Jenny (jenny.felton@lyttelton.school.nz) by the end of school on Friday 8th August, with ‘Read to an animal’ in the subject line. Remember to include your name.
