Year 8s Wellington Trip

Rachel Cummins —

A week of adventure and educational wonders were had by our 18 year 8 students this week supported by two teachers and two parents.

We travelled by train, ferry, bus, plane, kayak and foot power (on day two we walked 11 kms) to explore our capital city.  We saw the Weta Workshops Cave and Thunderbirds are Go on our first morning followed by a whole lot of animal action at the Wellington Zoo.  A trip down the Cable Car showed us some of the city up high.  Rock climbing and kayaking on the harbour were a highlight for many.  Parliament and lunch with our MP for Banks Peninsula, Dr Tracey McLellan found us knowing quite a lot more about how things work in The Beehive.  Te Papa was as always amazing and the night time activities of Laser Strike, ten pin bowling and the movies were a great way to end the day.  Not much sleep was had by some of us at the YHA, but that's what the weekend is for!!
