“Power by Nature” What is energy-where does it come from and how is it used?

Janet Powell —

The Sail GP event was the perfect catalyst to kick start our science-based inquiry into the power of the wind.

Harakeke has joined together with Kowhai to enjoy a series of workshops that will be covering windmills and wind turbines, sails, kites, wind gauges and wind related weather systems. We are enjoying having mixed groups where there are older and younger tamariki working together and we have been so impressed with everyone's thoughts and ideas. Here are some of the wonderful questions from the beginning of the inquiry when the tamariki were asked to share their wonderings. We look forward to sharing our discoveries, new knowledge and understanding at the end.

How is wind created?

How does the wind work?

Where does the wind stop?

How does the wind make the Sail GP boats go so fast?

Is wind made of molecules?

How does the wind make waves?

How does the wind move things?

How does it blow the trees?

How are tornadoes formed?

Is wind related to storms?

What is a breeze?

How does the sun affect the wind?

What is weather?
