Raupo has been doing some awesome things!

Nina McMillan —

Hi, these are some of the things Raupo has been doing for the past few weeks…

In writing, Raupo has been learning how to write structured sentences. A structured sentence is when you explore how all the parts of a sentence fit together, we have been writing our own outrageous stories and rewriting other stories. Raupo has been doing great work and should be very proud of themselves.

In maths, Raupo has been learning about place value. We have been exploring thousands, hundreds, tens and ones. We have also learnt about expanding numbers and using the base tens block to show different numbers.

For Inquiry we have been learning about space and the planets. At the big library there was a space exhibit and the teachers were planning to take us there on a field trip but sadly it was too late to plan one. Although it was too late for our teachers to take us there they still encouraged us to go there with our own families. We have been learning lots about the sun, the moon and the earth and how they are all connected.

In art we are making bookmarks, a decorated hand for our goals and self portraits poster/poems. For the bookmarks we had to write our names and the name of our class (raupo) and do the things that inspire and represent us. The hands we decorated will symbolise us reaching for the stars to achieve our goals. Our self portraits include a colourful background, some text that describes us and our individuality and it also includes a photo. These three things will be combined to make a complete artwork.

On Monday, Jono from Sport Canterbury, came in and taught us a game called Toss. The game goes a bit like this, there are four hoops and you try and get the beanbags in each hoop and the first team to sit down after throwing the beanbags in each hoop wins.

This week, we did swimming sports and dressed in our house colours. Some of our favorite races were backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle. Good job to all those people who gave it a go!

Finally, today we are doing a crazy hair day to fundraise for the schools that got Affected by Cyclone Gabrielle. The Students can wear crazy hair as well as bringing a donation . There will be a Prize for the best crazy haired student in each class. Thank you to all the people who Donated!!!!

We want to thank our teachers for teaching us so much.
