On Thursday two year 7/8 teams went to Opawa school and took part in the Epro 8 challenge. On Wednesday a Year 5/6 team also took part.
They were Rowan, Dylan, Alexander, Tashi who were the Lyttelton DARTS and Eva, Pascoe, Gabriel, Lada who were the Lyttel Troopers and Jasper, Matai, Eliza and Rose who were the Lyttel Lamacorns.
The Epro8 challenge stands for Engineering, Problem Solving and Innovate. A challenge is where you follow certain criteria to get points which go onto a screen and the team with the most points after the two and a half hours wins.
Each team can choose what activity they do and once they have done that first base challenge they can move on to a different side activity.
Both the Lyttelton teams chose the dog kennel activity first. Both teams made a structure which was 800mm off the ground and 600mm by 500mm - big enough space to fit a small dog.
The Lyttel Troopers’ (Eva, Pasco, Gabriel and Lada) favourite activity was where they had to make a roof so when the judge came and dropped marbles on the roof they would not drop down and hit the dog or get stuck.
The DARTS (Rowan Dylan Alexander Tashi) favourite activity was the water sensor challenge where when the water rises or when someone raises their hand, a cup attached to a axle (a spinny thing) hits a sensor which flashes a warning light that the water is rising.
The top three teams got into the semi finals. The DARTS came 2nd out of 8 teams so the DARTS are through to the semi finals.

On Wednesday 23 of May I went to the Epro8 with Eliza Rose and Matai. The Epro8 is about engineering problem solving and innovating. You are in a team of four there are twelve teams each team has a trolley filled with equipment and you try to complete challenges to earn points. When it started we had two and a half hours to do challenges. When there was about one and a half hours left we were last place but then we started getting some points and went straight to first place. When some teams started getting some points we went back to fifth place. when there was only thirty minutes left we were sixth place but if we completed one more challenge we would be first. When there was only two minutes left we were still sixth we were stressed we were trying to do a challenge but it was not working. In the end we came sixth and had two hundred points we had tons of fun.
