Musicians in the making

Rowena McNabb —

A team of five members from the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra (CSO) visited us last week.

To start with the whole school was treated to a demonstration of the instruments (oboe, flute, viola, trumpet and double bass). Then we enjoyed listening to a mixture of contemporary and classical music played by the CSO members..

Kōwhai students were led by the CSO in a music lesson that saw them learning four different rhythms, trying out some percussion instruments, forming their own mini orchestra, and playing along with the musicians and composer.

Ngā mihi nui to the CSO, and Lyttelton Port Company for the opportunity and ka pai te mahi to Kōwhai students for your enthusiastic music-making!
