Gemma Greenwood is the Public Health Nurse connected with our Lyttelton School community and can provide confidential and free nursing support as part of the Lyttelton School team.

The Public Health Nursing Service can provide:

Nursing support for any unmet health needs such as:

• Wetting and/or soiling
• Hygiene and/or headlice
• Nutrition concerns
• Sleep issues
• Inadequate management of diagnosed conditions such as asthma, eczema.

Our support includes:

• Meeting with whanau in their homes (or wherever they choose)
• Attending healthcare appointments to support them to feel heard and to have their needs met
• Liaising with school staff to support continuity between home and school care.
• Referrals to agencies when further support is required

As Registered Nurses we practice in accordance with the Nursing Council New Zealand guidelines regarding professional standards and the sharing of information.

How can the Lyttelton School Nurse support your family?

• Meet with you at home/school/workplace/café to talk about how to manage your children’s health problems in a way that suits your family, and work with you while you get sorted.
• Attend health appointments with you and your child to support you to have your questions answered.
• Support teachers to manage your child’s health issue during the school day by providing advice and support.
• Access further support with your consent and follow through to make sure that you get the support that you want.
