Our Kōwhai Artists
All of our students have been creating matariki art about kite flying, using a very special technique - scratch art.
First we had to pastel quite heavily on a piece of A3 paper, all the way to the edges in lovely, bright happy colours. While we were doing this, Whaea Beccy took photos of us in zany 'kite-flying' positions.
Then we painted over it in black paint and left it to dry. When it was dry, we added our cut out photo and then scratched in our detail of the Matariki stars and us flying our kites.
