Lyttelton joins Aupaki!

Lyttelton Primary School —

We are delighted to announce that Lyttelton Primary School has now formally joined the Aupaki Kāhui Ako which was formed in April this year.

A Kāhui Ako (Community of Learning) is a group of education providers working together to help students achieve their full potential. This concept of Kāhui Ako formed out of the Government Policy ‘Investing in Education Success.’ The Aupaki Kāhui Ako comprises Sumner School, Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic School, Redcliffs School, Mt Pleasant School, Heathcote Valley School and Linwood College and now Lyttelton Primary School.

Joining a Kāhui Ako has been an important goal of Lyttelton Primary School and we look forward to the development of a strong educational pathway for our tamariki from early childhood through the secondary school and beyond. Already our Kāhui Ako is well underway with its work together to form shared goals and achievement challenges based on the needs of its children and young people. Children from Lyttelton Primary School have been involved in enrichment learning opportunities at Linwood College and the speech competition. We look forward to ongoing collaboration through sports tournaments, cultural and musical festivals, tech fest and more!

The Kāhui Ako name ‘Aupaki’ was gifted by mana whenua with the approval of local rūnanga. Aupaki translates as ‘sloping hillside’ which is a geographic feature that all of the schools in our Kāhui Ako have a natural affinity with. The words Au (meaning wave) and Paki (meaning crashing) also recognise the importance of the ocean and inland waterways that connect our kura.

We are very much looking forward to collaborating with our staff, whānau and learners for many years to come.
