Kowhai visits Rapaki

Dinah Wallis —

What a beautiful day we had at Rapaki Marae. The parents, the Tangata Whenua, the pōwhiri, the wonderful feeling of the Marae and the weather. Kowhai was truly lucky to have had the experience.

My Report on Rapaki Marae

Today we went to Rapaki Marae. In the wharenui, we couldn't bring food or drinks into it. We got welcomed onto the Marae. They sang Te Poho o Tamatea. We sang Te Aroha, we sang the chorus and the verse. Next, they welcomed us to their kitchen.

We had kai. It was biscuits & fruits. They were yum. After that, we lined up to go into the Wharenui. We listened to stories about Maori Ancestors.

Later we went to the beach & collected some seashells & we threw rocks into the water. I went back to the Marae with lots of shells.

I was so excited for lunch! Yay finally. After lunch, we did sketching. We split into home groups.

Last of all went to the beach and made a koru with beach shells & stuff we found on the beach. It was fun. My favorite part was the stories.    By Ella

When we walked down the path of stones I heard the stomping of feet and the songs of little birds and the chitter-chatter of kids. As they opened the doors I saw the smiles of Maori people. We sang some waiata and we got welcomed. I looked at the carvings of his ancestors. Then we lined up boys had to go to the back of the line and girls at the front. After that, we had a cookie and a piece of fruit. It was yum!

Then we made our way back to the meeting lounge to hear some stories. Next, we lined up ready to go to a graveyard. After that, we made our way down to the beach to hear another story and collected some shells. So I skipped back up the path with a handful of shells. I gave a sigh of happiness as I stuffed my face with mandarin.

“Lunch!” I shouted

After lunch, we split into groups and we did some sketching. Our last activity was we went to the beach to make a koru. And back to school. It was so great. I loved it.   By Ceanna.

Rapaki Marae

On Tuesday we went to Rapaki Marae. It was a nice day because it was hot and sunny.

When we went into the Marae, we had to go girls first and boys second. When we sat down boys are at the front and girls at the back. After we got welcomed onto the Marae, they gave us some food.

Then we heard some myths and legends. After that, we went for a walk to the beach while hearing some more stories about the history of Rapaki.

In the afternoon we did some drawing. We drew Te Poho o Tamatea which is not actually the mountain overlooking Rapaki

It is in the valley behind.   By Mila

Yesterday Kōwhai went to Rāpaki on the bus.  I couldn't understand the Maori but I could understand the English. Maui talked us through the whole of it.

After that we went to the beach and I made a design out of glass.  Then we had lunch and past it around the table.  Then we went back on the bus.

I would git it a thumbs up. It was the best.  By Juliet
