About our Learning Spaces
How does our place work?
The downstairs floor is named Takaroa and consists of the Harakeke (Y0-1) and Kōwhai (Y2-3) Learning Spaces
Upstairs the Rakinui floor has the Raupō (Y4-6) and Tōtara (Y7-8) learning spaces.
The school role varies from year to year and and usually sits between 140 and 180 students. The role increases during the year as new students arrive.
Moving students through learning spaces
During the year students are moved between learning spaces as required to best meet student needs and manage teacher to student ratios. This is more likely to happen between the Harakeke and Kōwhai learning spaces as the number of year 1 students increase at cohort entry dates throughout the year.
Parents of year 1 children who are being considered for moving through are contacted to discuss this. If there is a need to move students through this may happen in term 2, 3 or 4. Year 1 students moving through to Kōwhai remain as year 1 students while learning alongside their peers in Kōwhai. Students who move through learning spaces are supported by all teachers on the Takaroa floor for a successful transition.
There are a number of factors teachers consider when selecting children to move through learning spaces.
These include:
age and number of weeks at school
social skills and friendship groups
stage of learning
particular strengths and abilities
other factors that may have been discussed with parents.
Our welcoming teachers and staff look forward to meeting with you.
