Planning for Matariki Celebration Day- Wednesday 26th June
This year to celebrate Matariki we have a wonderful day planned. This is a great opportunity for us as a school and a community to connect, reflect on the past, the present, the future and each other.
We would love you to join us for the day, parts of the day, the evening. During the first part of the morning our tamariki will be helping to prepare the kai for hāngī and some learning about the hāngī process. The children will then participate in 2 different workshops for the rest of the day. They will be working in whānau groupings which means the groups will have children from throughout the school. At Macandrew Bay School we love to encourage Tuakana-teina relationships. Tuakana-teina is a concept from Te Ao Māori and refers to the relationship between an older (tuakana) person and a (teina) younger person. We are proud that our older children look after the younger children providing them with support and encouragement. This has always been a special part of our kura.
