Kererū Update!
What a fabulous start to the year we have had in Kererū. Some highlights so far have been learning about Chinese New Year, library, PE, swimming, art, getting to know each other and our reading and math rotations!

It is hard to believe another week has whizzed by. We loved having Annemarie Jorissen, special ambassador for the Ronald McDonald House as a guest of honour at our Focus assembly today. Annemarie came to accept a cheque for $833.80 from a group of tamariki that were in Tūī class last year. These tamariki raised this money for the new Dunedin Ronald McDonald House from the sale of a special Tūī around the world cookbook and a Slushy and Jibbitz sale. Annemarie gave us a beautiful taonga to say thank you, a framed picture of a special tree which we will put up in our office area for everyone to see. We are so proud of the amazing efforts of the Tūī 2023 tamariki. One of the special things about our kura is that we have such kind and caring children who like to give back and help others.
There is an exciting buzz around the school as we get ready for our School Fair next Sunday 17th March. We have a St Patricks Day theme, so pull out your costumes and tell all your friends to dress up. There will even be a prize for the best dressed.
A special THANK YOU to all our parents and whānau that are working so well together to make our school fair a huge success. We really appreciate all everyone is doing behind the scenes, we really do have an amazing community! I love this whakataukī about communities working together and how many hands make light work : He rau ringa, e oti ai!
Only 9 days until our School Fair!

We learnt more about the special plants, trees, flowers and creatures that are part of our kura. During March, all classes will get to visit the Ecosanctuary to continue to build on their previous learning and connect with our current learning this year. See more important information below:

Visit this articleWe recommend you take the time to read through the expectations we have about illness. It is important we take a sensible, caring approach of not coming to school sick. We are finding it harder each year to get relievers for sick staff and we want to minimise the spread of sickness in classes.
Visit this articleSchool does commence at 9:00am. We ring a bell at 8:55am so the tamariki are all ready to go for learning by 9am. Staff are usually at school by 8:15am and the time before school is precious for preparing for the day so we do appreciate if tamariki arrive from 8:30am.
