SEASON START - TERM 1

At Mahurangi College, we take great pride in our rugby program. Students from Year 9 to 13 can join a variety of boys' and girls' tackle or non-contact rugby teams during the winter season.

Our 1st XV team and Premier Girls' team participate in long-standing exchanges with Hauraki Plains and Mt Roskill during the year, fostering strong rivalries and memorable experiences. Additionally, the 1st XV competes annually against Orewa College for the prestigious Murray Jones Shield, a highlight of the season.

GAME INFORMATION

• Games are played on a home-and-away basis, with away games held at the opposing school or various club locations.

• Home games for Mahurangi College may be played on the College rugby field or at a field located at the Warkworth Showgrounds.

• Boys’ teams play on Saturday mornings.

• Girls’ teams: Youth 17 girls play Mondays, and Youth 15 girls play Tuesdays after school.

  
  

INTERMEDIATE & ZONE DAYS

For students in Year 7 and 8 there is a rugby festival zone day, as well as 15 aside to participate in. Teams will be selected at trials during term 3. 

Y7/8 Mixed Quick Rip team may have the opportunity to attend the AIMS 

Games Tournament; however, this event will come with an additional cost. The school works through a selection process that takes into consideration gender equity, staff availability, and accommodation options. Teams selected to attend AIMS will be confirmed at the end of Term 1.

CLUB RUGBY

Rugby for juniors and seniors is also offered through our local club (see below).

SEASON FEES

Season fees for 2026 will vary based on team selection, so it’s a good idea to set up an automatic payment with Student Services.

Account details via Internet Banking: 12 3095 0259130 00 (Ref "Child's name: Rugby") by the start of the season.

GEAR

Team playing jerseys are supplied. However, you will need to purchase navy school rugby shorts and navy & white socks.

All required gear can be purchased through the online Paladin Gear Store, which opens once only before the start of the season.

Dates: 2nd Feb - 20th Feb 2026. Once the online store is live, you will receive a link via email to access it.

Socks will also be available for purchase from Student Services throughout the year.

All players need to play in rugby/football boots. A mouthguard is a necessity; no mouthguard, no play.
