2026 UNDERWATER HOCKEY

Elissa Jones —

New Zealand is the only country in the world that runs an underwater hockey program through its schools - raising the profile of the sport to a large, young audience and creating a substantial pool of players for NZ teams to be chosen from.

Mahurangi College has achieved excellent results at National level and we are proud to have a number of our players play for NZ and selected for NZ squads.

Each team is up to 12 players with six players in the pool at one time rotating out with subs. Playing gear is snorkel, mask, fins, stick and a weighted puck which slides across the floor of the pool into 2m goal bins. If you want to give it a go, or minimise initial outlay, MAHU UWH has loan gear to start you off.
