Learning about the Election

Cam Fraser —

Over the last term, the students of Te Whare Ako have been learning about the upcoming election, including meeting some of the local Mana electorate candidates. On Wednesday we held our own "mock election" where we learnt how to submit a voting form, act as an electoral official and of course count votes correctly. Our results will be submitted alongside the other 1033 schools in New Zealand who held similar elections. For more information on this programme see this website https://elections.nz/getting-involved/teaching-voting-at-schools/kids-voting-programme/

The results of these mock elections will be released after the official election. It will be interesting to see how the under 18 rangatahi of NZ have voted.

After tallying our class votes - we found Labour won by 56% and Barbara Edmonds was the most popular candidate. We also voted on the two referendum questions. Have a look at our photos to see our entire results.

Lastly - if you haven't already - GET OUT AND VOTE!
