I as a coach hold values when coaching a team. It's called the 3 WAYS - Communication, Commitment & Good Attitude. These were the 3 Values that I used in selecting the team. Making this selection was difficult as I had 14-16 players but could only take 10 - 12 players & finalised on just taking 10 players which was a good amount of numbers. All the players were still able to play during the weekly games as we had entered two teams for Fridays. Once again congratulations to those that made the Senior Girls Volleyball National Squad for 2024.

It's been a massive journey full of preseason training, trials & fundraisers. This year we travelled to Palmerston North where we had  2 games per day & one on the last day. This is the first year in 4/5 years when they last took a girl's team to Volleyball Nationals.

This was a first for many of the girls and were lucky enough to take 2 Year 10s with us, Ella Waihi & Salem Edmonds. As of result they only lost 2 games while up there. They came first in their Pool games with all games 2 - 0, losing both quarter-finals, placing 7th overall on the final day.

It was an experience for all the girls that went. The volleyball Atmosphere is a whole different vibe compared to other sports. From my lens " Hype & Energy everywhere in the Comp".

Each day was different & each day was full of energy & game mode moments. We had to remind ourselves and our players that we went for one reason only & that was VOLLEYBALL. We had to switch the mindset of these young volleyballers that we can have fun in everything we do but also have the mindset of volleyball mode when on the court & a mindset of a team off the court. During the off-court session, We would do team talk & Team Bonding Sessions where we got to do activities and name a few activities we did

Family Feud

Kmart Run

Cup Activities

Bowling

Once the team bonding session was done they had time to wind down before game time or before bedtime. These girls did an amazing job while at Nationals and to only lose two games during that time we were up there we are super proud of them with the results. We are off to a good start in being able to take the girls to the Volleyball Nationals. Watch this space for 2025!!

We will be holding trials & boot camp for the next year. Stay tuned...Don't forget to follow us on https://www.instagram.com/mana_gvb/?hl=en to stay tuned on everything VOLLEYBALL for girls and boys.

Special Thank you to my crew Miki, Tiringa & Alecada for always having my back and backing me on my decisions on and off the court. You all have been an amazing team & couldn't have done it without you.

Special thank you to the parents for everything they have done to help us coaches get the team to where they are, each game we played was for them.

A massive thank you to Amy, and Jo for the behind the scenes at school. We couldn't have gone to Nationals without you Both.

Student Voice: Kalolaini Radravu Year 11 (Middle Hitter)

For your first experience of Volleyball, we would love to hear how it went
Volleyball has been an amazing experience for me. Over the years, I've learned so much and it's been a journey of growth and improvement. I've gained valuable skills like teamwork, communication and agility. One thing that sets volleyball apart from other sports is the different strategies you work on and just how fast-paced the sport is. As for positions, I enjoyed playing middle because I love how I get to do exciting things on the court, like blocking the other teams' hits, just confusing them when you run up with noise and hungry to smash the ball.

Playing volleyball was something I was drawn to because of the excitement but as time went on it wasn't just about playing for fun but also being competitive when on the court. My first volleyball Nationals was an unforgettable experience, competing with the talented teams and making unforgettable memories with the girls. I am grateful to have the support of many amazing people who helped me align the way, from coaches to teammates and friends.

From this experience, I've not only gained skills but also lifelong friendships and a sense of accomplishment. Moving forward, I'm looking forward to improving my game, whether it's increasing my agility or improving my strategic thinking.
