Principal's Address
Congratulations to Year 11 Business students whom on Thursday ran the Annual Market Day. The products sold were of exceptional quality and it's wonderful to talk with young people about their products and the thinking behind their business plan. I understand one group made over one thousand dollars on the day.
The event is in tune with the previous weeks Art Exhibition 'te haerenga' where students displayed their work and hosted an evening for whānau and friends to celebrate and purchase art work.
Both events are reminders of the creative and business talent that lies within the school and how students are motivated by authentic, real world and meaningful curriculum and assessment.
Parent and Whānau Engagement
We look forward to welcoming everyone into the school for Learning Conferences next Thursday. As with each conference, you will have scheduled a time to meet with your young person's Learning Advisory.
At Year 9 level this will be to develop their Mauri Ora Plans. Year 10 will work though literacy and numeracy progressions and course selection.
In the senior school the focus changes to qualifications and pathways. For Year 13 this will be their last conference and the opportunity to review their exit plan for school and the destination for 2024. Exciting times!
Community Conduct Expectations
Our Code of Conduct (attached and on our website) serves as a reminder to all parents, caregivers and school visitors that their conduct MUST support everyone's emotional and physical wellbeing, and not harm it in any way.
The Code of Conduct applies to all conduct including:
- Speech
- Action
- Emails, texts, phone calls
- Social media and other communication
- In school and visitors to sports grounds
Basically, we're a school, and we work with whānau and family to support young people to learn and flourish.
Sometimes, your young person will come home and tell you something. When you contact the school to find out what happened, make sure you suspend judgement until you have all the facts.
Sometimes, this will mean we need to find out ourselves.
However, we won't tolerate abusive unsuitable behavior such as disrespectful behavior and have processes to deal with this.
In short, let's remember the words of Dame Whina Cooper
"Take care of our children. Take care of what they hear, take care of what they see, take care of what they feel. For how the children grow, so will be the shape of Aotearoa."
