LEARNING AREA: MATHEMATICS 


MATHEMATICS AND STATISTICS: NCEA LEVEL 1 

Course description:  This is a full year course composed of NCEA Level 1 Mathematics and Statistics  standards. There is a combination of externally assessed and internally assessed standards that provide a pathway to NCEA Level 2 maths courses. 

Possible pathways:  This course can lead to NCEA Level 2 Mathematics and provides the necessary  standards for many employment opportunities. 

NCEA credits available: There are 15 Achievement standard  credits available. (2 x 5 credit internal standards and 1x 5 credit external standards)

Exclusions: None



GENERAL MATHEMATICS: NCEA LEVEL 2 

Course description:  This is a full year course composed of NCEA Level 2 Mathematics standards. The  course involves graphing, algebra and calculus. There is a combination of  externally assessed and internally assessed standards which provide a pathway to all NCEA Level 3 Mathematics courses. You are able to do this course in  conjunction with any other Level 2 Mathematics course.  

Possible pathways:  This course is beneficial to most careers, in particular futures based in trades,  technology, finance, computer science, infrastructure, science and medicine.  

NCEA credits available: There are 19 credits from Achievement  Standards available. 10 credits from Internal standards, and nine credits from external standards. 

Exclusions: None. However, it is recommended that students have at least 10 credits at NCEA Level 1 from Mathematics and  Statistics standards. 



MATHEMATICS with STATISTICS: NCEA LEVEL 2 

Course description:  This is a full year course composed of NCEA Level 2 Mathematics and Statistics  standards. The course is based around analysing and interpreting data. It has a  large literacy component. There is a combination of externally assessed and  internally assessed standards which provide a pathway to the NCEA Level 3  Statistics and General Mathematics courses. You are able to do this course in conjunction with any other Level 2 Mathematics course.  

Possible pathways: This course is beneficial to most careers, in particular futures based in primary  industries, finance, social science, education, services and medicine.  

NCEA credits available: There are between 14 and 20 Achievement Standard credits available. Four credits come from the external standards. 

Exclusions: None. However, students should have at least 10 credits at NCEA Level 1 from Mathematics and  Statistics standards. 



Yr12/13 NUMERACY MATHEMATICS: NCEA LEVEL 1 and 2 

Course description:  This is a full year course composed of learnings required for Numeracy co-requisite. In this course you will learn about numeracy skills in 7 areas: Operations on numbers, Mathematical relationship, Spatial properties and representation, Location and navigation, Measurement, Statistics and data and Elements of Chance. There is also the opportunity to gain some Level 2 credits. 

Possible pathways:  This course will be beneficial to all students who have not yet gained the Numeracy Co-requisites. It is particularly useful for those interested in gaining further numeracy skills.

NCEA credits available: There are 10 Numeracy credits and further 5 level 2 credits are available when students have completed the Numeracy  requirements 

Exclusions: All year 11students, and senior students who have already achieved the  numeracy co-requisite.


GENERAL MATHEMATICS: NCEA LEVEL 3 

Course description:  This is a full year course composed of NCEA Level 3 Mathematics standards. It is designed for students who wish to continue with mathematics learning into Level 3 but do not wish to take a full Calculus or Statistics course. There  is a combination of externally assessed and internally assessed standards from the Calculus and Statistics areas, from which UE in Mathematics can be gained. 

Possible pathways:  This course is beneficial to many careers, in particular futures based in, trades, technology, finance, computer science, and infrastructure. 

NCEA credits available:  There are up to 20 Achievement Standard credits available depending on the time it takes to complete the  standards. These are made up of 16 internal and 4 external credits. It is also  an approved course for gaining 14 credits for University Entrance. 

Exclusions: Cannot be taken with Calculus or Statistics. No entry requirements, however, it is recommended that students have completed the Level 2 Mathematics or Statistics course.



MATHEMATICS with CALCULUS: NCEA LEVEL 3 

Course description:  This is a full year course composed of NCEA Level 3 Mathematics standards. There  is a combination of externally assessed and internally assessed standards from  which UE in Mathematics can be gained. Can be taken along with Statistics.

Possible pathways:  This course is beneficial to most careers, in particular futures based in engineering, trades, technology, finance, computer science, infrastructure, science and medicine. It  has a clear pathway into tertiary study.  

NCEA credits available:  There are up to 21 Achievement Standard credits available depending on the time it takes to complete the  standards. These are made up of 9 internal and 12 external credits. It is also  an approved course for gaining 14 credits for University Entrance. 

Exclusions: Cannot be taken with General Mathematics. No entry requirements, however, it is strongly recommended that students have completed the Level 2 Mathematics course.



MATHEMATICS WITH STATISTICS: NCEA LEVEL 3
