Porirua Youth Climate Summit

The summit is aimed at Porirua residents aged between 13 and 24, and takes place 9:30am – 3:00pm on Thursday 12th March at Te Rauparaha Arena. 

The purpose of the summit is to

  • Connect young people in Porirua who are interested in climate action and want to build ongoing networks
  • To learn from and be inspired by others who have great ideas and examples to share
  • To instill feelings of optimism and empowerment among young people about their future

The programme will include a mixture of guest speakers and small group workshops covering topics such as:

  • Climate change in Porirua, what to expect and how we can respond
  • Setting up and running a school enviro-group
  • Waste minimisation
  • Pacific issues around climate change
  • Song writing, environmental art
  • Maori perspectives on climate change
  • Practical activities such as bike maintenance
