Porirua Arts Trail Weekend

Hilary Milne —

The Porirua Arts Trail happened over the weekend, and Mana College was proud to host a Hub as part of the trail.

The Art staff of Mana sacrificed their weekend and opened up D block to the public, and displayed student artwork alongside some talented community artists.  We were very proud to display some art, photography and design boards of students, current and past, as well as skateboards, zines, t-shirt concepts, Ei Katu and Kakahu amongst others.

There was a steady stream of people throughout the weekend, with much interest in student artwork. We received a lot of feedback from members of the public about the overwhelming amount of talent here at Mana College. Those whose work was shown should be immensely proud of their mahi.

Alongside the student artwork, we had a small but significant contingent of community artists who contributed their work to the Hub. We were very lucky to have their work displayed alongside student work, and it helped to show what great talent we have in our community.

There was a modernist Tapa Cloth that we invited everyone to contribute to, and by the end of the weekend it wonderfully wove a story of community spirit and togetherness.

One of the organisers of the arts trail came by on Sunday morning and informed us that Mana College was a highlight for her. She was overwhelmed by the caliber of the work displayed, and the aroha that people had put into their work.

We want to thank everyone who came down to view the work that Mana College had on display, and thank everyone who either purchased some art or gave us some feedback on the work that we had on display.  We would also like to give a huge thanks to the community artists who contributed their work towards our hub. We wouldn't have had as beautiful of a hub without your contribution.

Another big thank you goes to Velli Brian, who not only brought in some of her work for display, but helped out with setting the hub up, assisted with keeping an eye on things, and was generally a fantastic extra pair of hands that we needed.

Lastly the biggest thank you goes to the teachers who generously gave up part of their weekend to help ensure the success of the hub. This would not have been possible without your support, and beautiful souls.

We hope to run this again next year, so if you would like to be part of the arts trail hub, now's the time to get your creativity flowing, and get as many masterpieces finished so they can be displayed here at Mana College.
