Year 9 Camp

Jeff Chapman —

Our own weather bubble!

A total of 126 students, (45 x yr.12 & 13 tuakana, 81 x yr.9s) and 15 staff attended an awesome camp at Forest Lakes from Monday 13th to Wednesday 15th this week. This was the first yr.9 camp at Mana College in the last five years.

We were blessed with a special 'Forest Lakes bubble' and enjoyed settled weather, with some minor drizzle and plenty of warm sunshine. This was very much an 'old school' camp where the staff and tuakana ran all the activities from dusk till dawn, including a confidence course, raft building, kayaks, boating/swimming in the lake and pool, mudslide, waterslide, bush/ rongoa treasure hunts, sports, and painting/etchings. The fashion show on our last night was epic with creativity and positive energy bursting at the seams!

To top it off the school haka was performed around a bonfire on the last night, including popcorn, singing, laughing and jokes from the tuakana afterwards. On the last morning each LA performed a chant and presented their class banner to the rest of the cohort. The whole camp was finished off with reflections and a round of big shout outs and acknowledgments.

This has set up the year 9s with a great start, created everlasting memories and started to develop some really positive relationships for their time at Mana.

Long may it continue and welcome yr9!
