Year 9 Camp

Jeff Chapman —

This year we had record numbers attending the annual Yr9 STARS camp. We had 94 year 9s, 34 Yr12/13 STARS mentors and 12 staff attend a three day camp at Kaitoke Outdoor Education Centre. It was a full on three days of relationship building, challenges (both mentally and physically) and some very hot weather! All of the activities required students and staff to mix in with new people, make new friendships and continue strengthening our Mana College values of Manaakitanga, A'o, Ngakau and Aspire.

The opportunities and experiences at the camp were rich in enabling positive culture for our new Yr9 cohort, i.e. Mana with Mana!

Already, after only two days back at school it's obvious the bonds between our Yr9's and their senior STARS mentors are strong. This is really encouraging as it's only week 3 of term 1 and our mentors have another 27 weeks of weekly sessions together.
