Te Whare Ako Winter Camp

Jenny Collett —

We were thrilled to be able to get back to Ohakune and Ruapehu for our Winter Camp this year. It is something students and staff within the TWA programme look forward to and which we have had to cancel due to Covid in recent years. We spent four days in Ohakune with 13 students enjoying the beautiful environment, amazing activities and each other's company. Camps like these provide students with many learning opportunities and for some it is the first time ever away from home. We couldn't have managed camp without the incredible trust and support of Te Whare Ako whānau who, amongst other things, agreed to some fairly strict Covid protection measures in order to allow everyone to have a healthy and safe camp. Special mention and many thanks to our adult helpers who also came on camp: Renee Carter, Azaria Felagai, Moni & Chase (Wairere Services).

Below are some of the hundreds of photos and videos we took to help us remember the experience which included, our first stop at Levin's Adventure Park, SNOW (a little at least) and sledding on Tūroa, the famous Ohakune Carrot Adventure Park, Rock Climbing, the Waiouru Museum and Jubilee Walk and a relaxing soak in the Tokaanu Hot Pools.

Finally a huge thank you to all TWA staff who took time away from their own whānau to make this happen for our awesome students.
