Waitangi Day Celebrations

John Murdoch —

It was a great honour to join our Governor-General The Rt Hon Dame Patsy Reddy for the Bledisloe Garden Reception to mark the 179th Anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi at Government House.

The event provided the opportunity to listen to the Governor General, Dame Patsy Reddy's Waitangi Day speech and to connect with school and community leaders, sharing conversations about this important day for New Zealand.

In Dame Reddy's korero an apt whakatoki reminds of the importance of the Treaty of Waitangi. Titiro whakamuri, haere whakamua, look back and reflect, so you can move forward. She adds that this is the thread that runs through our nation’s past, present and future

Te Tiriti ensures a place for all of us, while maintaining the interests of Māori, the tangata whenua of New Zealand.
