Student Trustee Results

Janine Laumua —

We would like to Congratulate McNamara (Macky) Temarama as the 2023-2024 Student Trustee.  We look forward to welcoming Macky in the October meeting.

Candidate Statement

Kia Ora, Talofa, Malo’ni, Kia orana and many more warm pacific greetings. Ko McNamara (Macky) Temarama Toku ingoa. I am a Year 9 student soon to be Year 10.

I believe that I possess the necessary traits required to be an effective student representative, such as:

  • Being hard-working, dedicated and committed

  • Willing to serve others

  • Goal-oriented

  • Honest and responsible

  • Great communication skills

  • A good listener

Our world is hungry for great leaders. I would like to be elected so that I can carry on listening to all our Tamariki voices and make a difference.

To quote former U.S. President Harry Truman:

“In periods where there is no leadership, society stands still. Progress occurs when courageous, skillful leaders seize the opportunity to change things for the better.”

I believe that our student voices are the most important voices to listen to, since they are the future generation and the ones who can make huge impacts in the world when they grow up, or whenever the opportunity presents itself.

There are some amazing changes happening this year regarding our building and how we can make a different environment for our whanau, community and our student wellbeing.

I would love to be the student and ambassador that continues to help this amazing kura kaupapa represent our Mana college values of Manaakitanga, A’o, Aspire and Ngakau. More importantly, so we can carry on thriving through all of our different ethnic student voices. I hope that next year our students are able to make the changes they want to see through their voices.

I think that student leadership opportunities in high school are significant because not only do they make a difference to others, but also allow one to develop social skills, decision-making skills, and other valuable interpersonal skills before heading out into the 'real world'.

This leadership opportunity will enable me to interact with many different types of people and situations, as well as learn how to deal with conflict. Being a student leader is a great way to learn about yourself, and all the opportunities that are available to you.

Last but certainly not least, I look forward to having fun, making memories, forming bonds and friendships that will last a lifetime.
