Acting Principal's message

Greg Sharland —

Kia ora koutou,

This year we are extremely fortunate to have a wonderful group of student leaders. They are a highly capable, motivated group of young people that are a credit to the school and their families. On Wednesday, many of these leaders attended a GRIP (Generosity, Responsibility, Integrity, People) leadership conference in Wellington. As usual, our group represented the school with pride and came away with many practical leadership tips and ideas. We look forward to seeing the inspiration in practice in the coming weeks.

Unfortunately, we continue to see the impact of covid on our staff and students and, in combination with the flu season, we are once again experiencing higher than usual absences. It is an important reminder to us all that we need to continue to take precautions when in crowded areas such as indoor venues and classrooms. Mask wearing is our best defense so I would encourage everyone to put on a mask where appropriate. We must also remember to stay at home when unwell and look after each other. As a Kura, we have battled through the last two weeks but with up to a quarter of our teaching staff absent in recent times, we are having to consider returning to another learning model. We will hold off doing this for as long as we can, but we may have to change models sometime in the near future. I will keep you informed of any decisions.

Due to a large number of teacher absences and the high demand, we have decided to run an additional Parent/Teachers interview evening. This will run on Wednesday 15th June between 4 and 6 pm. If you weren’t able to make the first session and/or the teacher was away, please book a slot. We prioritise face-to-face meetings over report comments as it is far more valuable feedback and discussion. We look forward to seeing you onsite for some good kōrero.

Ngā mihi
