Barbershop Workshops

Ms Moxey, Whaea Aidan —

Igelese Ete Workshop

This week our newly-formed Barbershop Chorus enjoyed their second workshop with guest director Igelese Ete. Igelese shared inspiring stories from his work recording music with other Pasifika singers, and he helped our students produce a beautiful, confident tone. We are excited to see how this group continues to grow in strength.

Barbershop Chorus is led by singing teacher Liss Bailey and rehearses during Monday lunchtimes. New members welcome.

Aotea College Workshop

Wednesday morning we took 15 students to Aotea College to participate in a Barbershop singing workshop. We were joined by Aotea, BVC, Porirua, and Kapiti College.

The day was directed by David Brooks a long-time and internationally recognised Coach and Brigid O'Shanassy a long-time coach in the Kapiti area.

Students were put into 4 parts depending on their voice. Tenor, lead, baritone, bass. We all learned a new song together and the harmonies in the room were amazing. Mana students did well and even performed in smaller groups in front of about 80 of us. This starts our journey to the regional barbershop competition in June.

Thank you Liss Bailey for encouraging the students to be part of Barbershop and the magic that happens when 4 harmonies happen at the same time!
