Eight of our junior students take part in Mathex 2017.

Mana Media —

It's fast-paced, it's hectic and it makes maths fun. Mathex involves some speedy number crunching as teams race to submit their answers.

On Friday 11th August four year 9 and four year 10 students represented Manawatu College in the annual Mathex Competition held at the Silks Lounge at the Racecourse in Palmerston North.

The year 9 team consisted of: Brock Dykstra, Jamie Henry, Jaymee Jones-Webb and Ashdyn Thwaites.

The year 10 team consisted of Reif Jerard, Dominic Kupa, Georgia Penman and Tempestt Pitcher.

The Racecourse buzzed with excitement as students from years 7 to 10 from schools from all over the wider Manawatu area scrambled to answer 20 maths questions in 45 minutes, with the aim of getting the highest score.

There are two parts to Mathex for our students.  There is a 20 minute practical round and a 15 minute rapid fire questions round.

Our students performed outstandingly this year, the year  9s came 17th and the year 10s came 13th out of 25 teams in each section.

Well done!
