Manawatu College Ki o Rahi team qualifies for the national tournament in April next year!

On Thursday 25th October Manawatu College entered two teams in the secondary schools Ki o Rahi Competition held at Tu Toa in Palmerston North.

Manawatu College Team 1 entered into the Competition grade and Manawatu College Team 2 entered into the Emerging Team grade.

Both teams played combined PNBHS and PNGHS teams first up and they both lost their first games.

In their second game, Team 1 beat Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Manawatu, 14-10 and Team 2 lost against  Feilding High School 3,  7-1.

Game three saw Team 1 play Dannevirke and they drew 13 all. Team 2 played  Feilding High School 4 and won, 14-7.

Both teams made it through to the semi finals of their grade.  Team 1 was playing off for places 1-4 in the Competition pool and Team 2 were playing off for places 5-8 in the Emerging Teams pool. 

Team 1 played Tu Toa 1 in their semi final and lost 6-3. This then saw them play off for 3rd and 4th place, where they beat Feilding High School 1, finishing third place in the Competition pool.

Team 2 won their semi final against  Feilding High School 2. and then beat Freyberg High School 7-3 in their final to finish fifth place.

Following this performance, Manawatu College has qualified for the national tournament in April next year.
