Level 3 Geography Camp

Steve Parrant —

2016 saw the traditional field trip to Rotorua for the level 3 Geography class.

Like previous years the trip was based around both the external exam and collecting data for the internal assessment worth 5 credits. The trip started on a positive note as both Naomi and Lachlan were on time ready to go!

The first visit was Te Puia where a Maori concert was enjoyed and then a tour of the geothermal field. Next was our new accommodation which rooms did remind many of the tv show Wentworth. We caught up with our friend George from the Rotorua Museum where Mr O’Sullivan found his normal table at the cafe.

Next was the luge visit. Previous 14 years had been fairly uneventful...the class of 2016 soon made up for that. Kyle provided the biggest highlight (thanks to Dion for capturing all on his go-pro) when he tried to follow the superior riding skills of Mr Parrant. Sadly it ended in Kyle using his head against a wall to stop when he missed a corner...luckily Dion was on hand to run into him and pop him back onto the luge so he could continue. At least that was an accident, unlike Hayden who used his mass to send Kate off her luge over the edge of the track.

Time was then spent around the city collecting data based on accommodation and attractions. The pokemon hunters of Deanna and David also spent this time unsuccessfully looking for the rear “geothermal pokemon”.

The final day saw the group visit the Agrodome for the show and then a quick swop.

Like all trips over the last few years the van ride home was very quiet as everyone caught up on missed sleep and the drivers finally had some peace and quiet!!
