Te Ata Kura opens in Levin
Mana Media - February 7, 2017
Manawatu College is the managing school for the Alternative Education programme and has been for the past 9 years.
There are many reasons why students from the Horowhenua region attend Te Ata Kura. Alternative Education is a short term intervention to support up to a maximum of 15 tauira (students) who have been removed from mainstream schooling. The programme is designed to re-engage these tauira in a meaningful leaning programme targeted to their individual needs and support their transition back to mainstream schooling, further education, training or employment.
The Te Ata Kura supports tauira to progress in the areas of:
· Attendance and engagement
· Academic achievement
· Personal and social skills
· Hauora (Health and wellbeing)
· Cultural identity and awareness
· Building positive whanau and peer relationships
Sonia Whakatihi and Willie Brokenshaw are the Youth Coordinators and will be tutoring and supporting the tauira on a daily basis. We start 2017 with 5 tauira enrolled in Te Ata Kura.
