One Big Mosh

David Cleary, Arts Captain —

The One Big Mosh is a small event with a lot of heart, an event that helps young musicians in the Horowhenua area perform in front of each other, getting used to performing on stage in a safe, constructive environment.

The night featured a number of students from our own school performing songs from a diverse range of genres, displaying a lot of breadth and depth of musical talent. The atmosphere was encouraging and supportive, with friendly people making the event most enjoyable for both the performers and the audience.

Our senior students: Shiny Aldersley, Shania Lamb, Paige Wright, Dymond Moke, Ryan Heayns and Sean Hirst performed as part of an achievement standard for NCEA credits while others, including “Fusion” (comprising Brad and Justin Jurgens) gave thrilling performances to entertain those who were in attendance.

Fusion performed three original songs: “Metal War”, “Haters” and “Warning Shot Through The Head”, as well as two covers: “Little Pills” by Devilskin and “Killing In The Name Of” by Rage Against The Machine. Justin Jurgens also took on the role of MC for the evening as he is a prominent member of the school’s music community.

Performers from outside of the College also added to the night’s entertainment, the most recognisable being “Melodies Of The Disturbed”, whose lead singer is Geordie Parrant, son of our own Mr. Parrant. (Have a look for them on Spotify).

Finally, and personally, I would like to say thank you to all of the students, staff and parents who contributed to the One Big Mosh and made it the successful experience it was. Without your support, opportunities like these would not exist!
