Our Latest New Zealand Age Group Reps

Mana Media —

Congratulations to Xsavier and Temyia Taiaroa for being selected to represent NZ in the U14 and U18 Junior Womens Inline Hockey teams which will be competing in the Junior Olympics in Hawaii next month.

Sisters Xsavier and Temyia (U18 & U14) Taiaroa have been selected to represent New Zealand in their respective age group Inline Hockey teams at the Junior Olympics. This event is held every four years, and this year it is being held in Hawaii. The girls leave on Saturday  10 September. They will be playing at least ten games against teams from countries such as USA, Canada, India, China and Australia.

Both girls (pictured above) began developing their stick skills by playing turf hockey from age 5, before following in their father’s footsteps and taking up Inline hockey a few years later.

They both competed in the Oceania Championships in 2014 in Hamilton, and Temyia also competed in the Oceania’s in Australia last year.

The girls each train at home for about 40 minutes every day, and Xsavier also does a strength-training programme here at the College one period a day with another Year 12 student Samantha (Sam) Hansen. These personalised programmes have been developed for them by PE teacher, Mr Shayne Nation, who also monitors and regularly revises their programmes.
