Teen Gauntlet: Gathering

Mana Media —

In July, Sam Hansen entered into the final competition of the Teen Gauntlet series, the Teen Gauntlet Gathering.

Following the two previous qualifying competitions, 40 teenagers aged 14–18 were selected to compete at the two day event in Napier. These competitors not only came from around New Zealand but also as far abroad as the USA, highlighting the significance and importance of this event.

The two days of competion were intense, containing a mixture of competition WODs (Workout Of the Day) and workshops which covered topics such as nutrition, biomechanics and rehabilitation.

“For the competition, we completed  a total of 6 initial workouts, then an additional workout for those of us  who made it into the final. Heading  into the last WOD, I was placed first  equal; there were two parts to the last WOD and, to secure first place  outright, I won them both.”  Sam

“Every workout was challenging and I am incredibly grateful to Mr. Nation for coaching me towards this goal. I also wouldn’t  have made it to where I am without the support of my amazing family, friends and sponsors. One of my highlights from the  weekend has to be the new friends I have made who help to inspire and motivate me.”
