ERO and MNA Reviews

Mana Media —

In June and July the College had three-yearly reviews from the Education Review Office and NZQA, and last week we received the confirmed reports.

These can be found on our website, but in summary both reports could be considered very, very good, and we can have every confidence that our College is delivering for our students and parents.

Since the 2013 ERO visit, Manawatu College has continued to improve “its systems, processes and curriculum to provide increasingly responsive and relevant programmes for students. Leaders and teachers are making better use of student achievement information to identify needs, set targets, inform plans and monitor progress. Improving the use of internal evaluation should sustain improvements.

ERO is likely to carry out the next review in three years.” Page 5, 2016 ERO Report

NZQA’s Managing National Assessment Report (June 2016) provides a good summary on page 12.

Manawatu College has effective processes and procedures for:

  • maintaining the currency of assessment policy and procedures
  • communicating assessment policy and procedures to staff, students and their families by:
  • providing teachers with a comprehensive handbook that is reviewed annually
  • encouraging teachers to discuss concerns with the Principal’s Nominee
  • issuing students with a handbook which outlines key processes
  • reinforcing the key messages such as managing deadlines, authenticity of student work, how to track progress for students as part of the mentoring programme
  • publishing an assessment statement for each course.

No action required

No issues with the way in which the school maintained the currency of assessment policy and procedures, and communicated them to staff, students and families were identified during this review.
