Our students attend the first-ever White Ribbon Youth Ambassador Leadership Program.

Mana Media —

On Friday 2nd August, Manawatu College took a selected group of students to the first-ever White Ribbon Youth Ambassador Leadership Program.

The organisation aims to eliminate men’s violence towards women by encouraging men to take ownership of this important issue and model good behaviour that can change attitudes and behaviour.

White Ribbon first reached New Zealand in 2004, since then the organisation has grown and is now reaching out more than ever to the next generation to recognise and represent it's values and message.

Two hundred and fifty students attended the event held at Wellington College from schools throughout the Wellington and Manawatu-Wanganui regions. Manawatu College representatives were selected to attend the workshop for their qualities as leaders and their values and integrity. These students included; Kenyon Hunia, Bailey Stella, Kaylah Wood, Domonic Blight, Lucas Olsen, Adam Coyle, Elysse Hollever & Jacob Thomas.

During the day there were White Ribbon group members who spoke from personal experience, four local Councillors, representatives from the police force, and the organisation's leaders. There were activities throughout the day and the chance to meet and talk with the White Ribbon riders.

An effective feature of White Ribbon’s strategy is to have Ambassadors, who are respected and influential role models, promoting White Ribbon messages to their network and community. Ambassadors will play a vital role in building support, visibility and promoting White Ribbon’s messages to new groups.

We look forward to hearing and seeing how our Ambassadors fulfil their roles and the difference that they will make.
