Our Junior Boys Basketball Team win their division in the Manawatu Basketball Competition!

Mana Media —

The Junior Boys basketball team was made up of eleven year 9 and 10 boys and was coached by senior students Micheal Tamarapa and Ed Winiana this year.

The team started with a hiss and a roar going undefeated in their pool for the year 10-11 boys grade in the first round.

The second round saw the pools change and the boys had more challenging games in pool A, losing against two of the five other teams. This qualified them for the semi-finals in second place.

The team won their semi final against Palmerston North Boys High 76ers convincingly, taking them into the finals to take on Waiopehu College. Through the season the Juniors had met Waiopehu twice- drawing the first game and losing the second.

The final turned out to be a thrilling game, with Waiopehu just in front through the first three quarters. In the final quarter both teams were going shot for shot when 3 pointers by Shane Rapson and Kagyn Taunoa put the team in the lead. Strong drives by William Murphy-Lahina and defence by Jade Taunoa and Jaden Skipper helped keep the lead with the team winning 30-26.

All members of the team were committed throughout the season and the result is a reflection of their hard work. Well done Kagyn, William, Shane, Jaden, Jade, Ashton, Cade, Ashdyn, Kullen, Malachi and Cory!
