Michael Hempseed visits our staff, students and whanau with a workshop to provide skills to speak with young people about mental health.

This workshop, aimed at whanau and friends who have young people in their lives is an initiative of the Horowhenua District Council.

Michael Hempseed is a highly sought after professional speaker. He has gained an honours degree in psychology from the University of Canterbury in 2008. He has delivered more than 80 inspiring and informative seminars over the last two years, on such diverse topics as overcoming failure, mental illness and how the teenage brain works.           

The sessions covered:

- An understanding of the latest scientific findings of the teenage brain and how to understand changes

- Sign and symptoms of mental illness

- How to engage with young people with a mental illness

- Different types of help that are available
