Manawatu College fielded a team of five athletes for this year’s Manawatu Inter-Secondary Schools Athletic Championships. 

That team was,  Carla Whittaker, Zhara Whenuaroa, Dion McErlean, Jack Penman and Shay Syme. All of the students performed creditably and represented both themselves and the College with distinction. 

The final results were:

• Dion McErlean: 2nd place in the Senior Boys’ Shotput with a PB of 11.55m
  
• Jack Penman: 5th place in the Senior Boys’ Long Jump
  
• Shay Syme: 1st place in the Intermediate Boys’ Long Jump, 2nd place in the Intermediate Boys’ High Jump and 3rd place in the final of the Intermediate Boys’ 200m
  
• Zhara Whenuaroa: finished in the top 8 for both the Intermediate Girls’ Shotput and Discus
  
• Carla Whittaker: 1st place in the Senior Girls’ Javelin with a PB of 30.92m
  

To top off the great results, both Shay Syme and Carla Whittaker have been selected to represent Manawatu at the North Island Athletics Championships. This took place in Auckland on the weekend of April 1st – 3rd.
