On Monday 3rd February, we welcomed all new students and staff into our College, including our new Deputy Principal, Mr Matt Fraser and staff members Miss Natalie Lane, Miss Roimata Neilsen and Whaea Mahara Te Peeti.

The students learned about the voting process and enrolled to vote.

This tramp is the first of a series of three tramps that the students complete to earn NCEA credits.

Established in 1985, the Manawatu College Educational Trust (Inc) supports the educational advancement of College students. Trust income is allocated to scholarships, educational resources, equipment and building projects that directly support the students. This income is generated by a protected fund consisting principally of membership subscriptions. Any person may become a member of the Trust by paying a subscription.

RYDA is designed for 16-17-year-olds as they begin to drive or ride in cars driven by their peers. This workshop (part of a broader programme) challenges students to change the way they think about road safety and lay the foundation for safe road use throughout their lives.

Congratulations to the following students who received Academic Merit and Academic Excellence badges at the first Assembly of the year for their 2019 NCEA Endorsements.

On Friday 14th February, we held our annual Inter-House Swimming Sports competition in the College pool.

Making the transition into College from primary school or intermediate can be daunting, so one of the first events on the calendar is the year 9 Orientation Camp, held at the Foxton Beach Bible Camp.

Our year 9 and 10 Te Whare Moemoea homeroom students spent their first two days of college at Paranui Marae for an overnight noho, supported by senior Maori Studies students.

Dom competed on two horses, Pravia and TS Talisman, in three shows over two days at the event, held at the Christchurch RDA Equestrian Centre.

Every year, on the first Friday of school, we hold our Tabloid Sports competition. Students compete in their Houses in a range of fun challenges and activities designed to promote teamwork and bring everyone together.

In an attempt to reduce distractions in the classroom and reduce disruptions to teaching and learning, many schools are making the decision to ban cellphones at school. A decision has been made to trial the banning of all cellphones for year 9 and 10 students this year.
