The Open is the first stage of the CrossFit Games season and the largest community event of the year. Every year, hundreds of thousands of athletes come together to compete in the worldwide, online competition.
This was Sam's first year competing in the Individual Women's Division - 18 years and over, and her second ever Open.
Workouts are released on Thursdays at 5 p.m and athletes have four days to complete the workout for the week and submit their score. Scores are due before 5 p.m. the following Monday. At the end of five weeks, the fittest move on to the next stages of competition: The Regional's and The Online Qualifier.
She placed 2,762 in the world and 200th in the Pacific Region, consisting of New Zealand, Australia, Asia and the Pacific Islands.
She says, "It was an exciting five weeks of competition that gave me some things to take away and work on. I am really excited to keep training hard over the next year and work on turning my weaknesses into strengths."
She also would like to thank her coach Mr Shayne Nation for all of his hard work. "I couldn't do any of this without you and I'm so grateful for everything you do for me. Also a big thanks to the trainers at CrossFit Mana for running yet another amazing Open".
Well done Sam!
