"....botox might be helpful"
This week we chat to the ever so lovely Pip Day. Pip teaches in the Intermediates and has a passion for sports and PE.
What is your greatest fear?
Fear of falling. I remember vividly as a small child screaming and clinging onto my Mum’s leg when we went up the steep spiral staircase at the top of the Christchurch Cathedral. I was adamant I was going to fall through the gaps between the steps. This was reinforced as a 17 year old where I ‘literally’ froze at the top of the Statute of Liberty (I think I was in her crown) and I struggled to get back down. I had to take it one slow step at a time. Needless to say, the next day my legs were so sore from my muscles being extremely tense.
What is your most treasured possession?
Even though they can be annoying as heck and it is a bit of a cliche... but my kids. They really make me proud (well so far - still time to make me pull out my hair) but in saying that, gotta make mistakes to learn and grow.
Who would play you in the film of your life?
Next time one of those facebook things come up that let you know this vital info I will do it and update you. I think the screen play is still in its infancy.
What makes you unhappy?
Unhappy people
What scares you about getting older?
Don’t see the point in being scared - it is what it is and nothing is going to stop it although Botox might be helpful.
What did you want to be when you were growing up?
A Secretary - ba ha ha! - I think it was because electric typewriters had just ‘come out’ and I loved typing on them. They were sooo much easier on the fingers than the old ones where you had to push the keys down really hard (showing my age there).
What is your guiltiest pleasure?
Wine (sparkling) and cheese and bread and chocolates and wine (rose) and gin and more cheese and some chocolate and maybe one more wine (savvy).
What single thing would improve the quality of your life?
Fewer emails ha ha! - Sending them, receiving them, replying to them, keeping track of them.
What has been your closest brush with the law?
At university I was part of a group that picked up a mini (that was parked) and turned it right around so it was facing the other way. We thought it was hilarious but the policeman who was sitting in a car across the other side of the road did not. Doh! We had to go and see the Dean of the uni the next day and after a stern telling off he made us pay some money to a charity of his choice. I have been sparkling clean ever since.
What is the most important lesson life has taught you?
There is just no need to brush your teeth in front of others and absolutely no reason to show people cleaning their teeth on tv/movies. Why, just why? And don’t get me starting on sucking the toothbrush. Gross.
What was your most embarrassing moment?
On my final teaching posting (Yr 8’s) I remember going to sit on a high stool in front of the class and the whole thing went out from underneath me and I fell backwards with my legs flying in the air - I was pretty embarrassed but the kids were kind and only laughed for a short time. They also pushed me fully clothed in the pool on my last day which was funny as.
Describe yourself in three words
Organised, loyal, (little bit) bossy.
Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
Soo good - oh no, hold on that is someone else I know who I work with closely who made me do this - so good.
Would you choose fame or anonymity?
Fame - because I would take the cash and build us a hall lol and then maybe fly somewhere first class (just to see what that is like lol).
What do you owe your parents?
The value of hard work and doing things well. I was not given ’stuff’- I had to earn it or pay it back and I really appreciate that now.
What is the worst job you’ve done?
Splitting apricots on contract. Needed a few plasters for the cut fingers.
If you could edit your past, what would you change?
Nothing, as then I wouldn’t be who I am now and I am ok with me.
Tell us a secret
I would but then it wouldn’t be secret would it so …
