Epro8 creates a buzz
Along with the Senior Team, the Intermediate Team have also been experimenting and building using the Epro8 technology equipment.
The EPro8 Challenge is an inter-school science and engineering competition. Every year over 22,000 students from throughout New Zealand take part. Students participate in a series of events: firstly within their school and then inter-school. For the first year ever, we were able to offer all classes the chance to experiment and 'play' with the equipment before choosing the strongest 8 teams to battle it out in an Intermediate competition. From this competition we selected two teams to represent us at the inter-school Tasman event and then at the Marlborough/Nelson/Tasman regional finals. Both of our teams did exceptionally well at our inter-school event with us taking out the top two places, which meant that both of our teams then went on to represent us in the regional finals on Wednesday night. On Wednesday night we were pipped out of the placings, but did manage to achieve very respectable 4th and 9th placings.
Epro8 asks students to problem solve challenges in teams of four, which start off as being simple engineering challenges. However, as the tasks progress, the challenges become more complicated and require a strong understanding of electronics and circuits. It is amazing to see what the students can achieve. Scroll through the photos to see an example of what a challenge entails. The complexity of what they are required to do is outstanding and it makes us so proud to see how the teams rise to the occasion, dig deep and work together to trial solutions. Ka pai to all those students who embraced this challenge. We look forward to using the equipment again!
