A Day at the Tennis

Anna Brewer —

On Wednesday 3rd November there was the Primary and Intermediate Schools Tennis Tournament at the Richmond Tennis Club.

The Māpua School participants from Y5/6 were: Tui, Austin, Lola P, Grace, Ben, Costa, Tim, Charlie F, Jamie and Sonny.

All the boys had games at the start of the day, the girls had to wait around an hour or 2 for their first games. It was exciting being at the courts because there were so many of them. It felt really professional.

After Lola finished her first game, We had some food and played against the wall. Tui hit a ball over the wall and then Sony hit one over. Anna had to keep getting these for us.

We had to score our own games which we were a bit worried about but we helped each other out. By the end of the day, we were all professional scorers. It was boiling hot and some of the games went on for a very long time because we had to win 7 games to finish.

Everyone had between 2-4 games. Lots of us won our grades or came runner up.

The results for Y5/6:

Primary Boys A:

1st Tim Mundy

Runner up: Costa Aerakis

Primary Boys C:

1st Benny Smith

Primary Girls B:

1st Lola Pratt

Runner up: Grace Wheatley

By Lola Pratt, Tui Davis, Austin Bruce-Miller & Grace Wheatley

The Intermediate crew went the following day, Luca Welham, Lucy Fillary & Ollie Towler were a small but mighty representation for the school following injuries and sickness. It was quite a quick day with games back to back. This also meant they were finished by 12.30 pm, despite playing 3 games.
