Brilliant Bubbles!
In Tōtara Class this term our science topic has been all about bubbles!
At the beginning of the term we started by thinking about what science is. All the children in Totara had some excellent ideas.
"Making experiments…making stuff explode!"
"Using different things to make other things".
"Looking at dinosaurs".
"Mixing colours"
"Mixing things together to make them explode like a volcano"
We all decided that to be a good scientist we need to ask good questions and find out the answers. We thought really hard about how bubbles are made, we blew lots of bubbles and we came up with some excellent questions to explore.
"How does it go up? How does it go down?" Freddie.
"Why does it pop when it hits the ground?" Joe.
"Why do the bubbles have rainbows in them?" Harper.
"Why do the bubbles sometimes not pop?" Fern
"How to they hold together?" Ari
"What are they made from?" Amber
"How do they float?" Basil
"What do bubbles have inside them?" Liam
"How do bubbles float and pop?" Elena
Over the next few weeks we did lots of different experiments to find out answers to our questions.
We tested different types of bubble mixture to see which gave us the best bubbles. We made different types of bubble blowers to see if we could get different shaped bubbles. We added sugar to the bubble mixture to see if we could make bubbles that didn't pop so easily and we also made colourful rainbow snake bubbles!
We didn't quite make things explode but we had lots of fun and did some great hands on learning....there is always next term!
