Enrolment Zone
Check the map to see if you are in zone for Mapua School.
Dear Parents/Caregivers and Whanau
Mapua School is a popular choice within this area of the Tasman region. To ensure there is space here for the children of Mapua, Ruby Bay and immediate surrounds the school, under the advice of the Ministry of Education, has established an Enrolment Zone. A map of this zone is attached. All students whose ‘usual place of residence’ is in this zone are entitled to be enrolled at Mapua School subject to the conditions noted in our Enrolment Policy (attached).
The enrolment of any out of zone students (OOZS) is subject to a Board of Trustees (BOT) review of placements from time to time (generally on an annual basis). Legislation sets out a priority order for the acceptance of any such students. This order is as follows:
First Priority - This priority category is not applicable at Mapua School because the school does not run a special programme approved by the Secretary.
Second Priority must be given to applicants who are siblings of current students.
Third Priority must be given to applicants who are siblings of former students.
Fourth Priority must be given to any applicant who is either a child of an employee of the Board of the school or a child of a member of the Board of the school.
Fifth Priority must be given to all other applicants.
(Refer MOE document on management of enrolment zones and Education Amendment Act 2010).
At a special meeting of the BOT on Tuesday, 29th November 2016 it was determined that the school would accept younger siblings of currently enrolled students where the family concerned are currently living out of zone (OOZ). That is, a family having enrolled students in the school prior to 1 December 2016 and now living out of zone, will be able to enrol younger siblings at the school also (see ‘Second Priority’ above).
However, the BOT wishes to inform all families that any subsequent OOZ enrolment requests are unlikely to be accepted. That is, should a family who has had children accepted for enrolment at the school (from 1st December 2016), subsequently move out of zone, then the school is, under present conditions, unlikely to accept the enrolment of any younger sibling(s) from that now out of zone family.
The school is aware that this condition could lead to a family having children enrolled in more than one primary school, and understands that this is by no means ideal. However the school’s priority is the provision of space to those students who live within its enrolment zone and therefore it wishes to bring this important condition to the attention of all newly enrolling families.
The school respectfully requests that all newly enrolling parents and caregivers sign this document to acknowledge that they have read and acknowledge its content.
Thank you
Neil Chalmers Mark Bruce-Miller
Principal BOT Chairperson
