Tōtara's tie-dyed T-shirts are a hit!

Amber Beech —

Tōtara have been exploring colour all term using paint and dye. Most recently we've had a go at tie-dying a T-shirt, and were impressed with results. We hope you will be too!

First we watched a YouTube video to get some ideas on the different patterns we could make. We narrowed it down to three patterns we could choose from: The 'V', which makes a V pattern; the 'Noodle', where the T-shirt is wrapped around a foam noodle; and the 'Stones', which uses stones and rubber bands to make the pattern.

We did the dying one at a time and had to be careful not to get it on our clothes. First we had to wet the T-shirt, as that helped the dye to absorb into the fabric. Then we had to carefully squeeze the dye onto the T-shirt in the right places.

The next day, after the T-shirts had been washed, we got to see how they turned out. We thought they looked great and put them on straight away. Some of us have barely taken them off since!
