First Aid Training

Pip Day —

We were lucky to have Mary from St John come into the school and work with all our year levels to learn about what to do in an emergency.

On Monday morning we had a first aid lesson with Mary from St John and learnt what to do in an emergency.

D.R.S.A.B.C.D teaches you what procedures to take:

D-danger - check your surroundings

R-response- can the person hear you

S-send for help - call 111

A-air ways- are they clear

B-breathing - is the patient breathing

C-cpr - do this if they are not breathing

D-defibrillator - there is a free app for this - it helps shock the patient heart into beating

We also learnt what to do if someone is having a stroke:

F.A.S.T

F-face

A-arms

S-speech

T-take action

These are some very helpful tips on what to do in one of these situations. We learnt how to do most of these things and how to put a person into the safe side/recovery position. This position makes sure that if the patient throws up they don’t choke but if some puke gets in the patient's mouth you will have to scoop the goop! You will get 2 fingers and scoop the puke out of their mouth. This was such a fun experience and I learnt a lot.
